20th Century Fox has officially greenlit their long-in-development ‘X-Men’ spinoff Deadpool, based on the Marvel Comics character. Ryan Reynolds is expected to reprise his role as the wise-cracking mercenary, also known as Wade Wilson. Fox regained interest in the project after test footage was leaked online. You can check out the screencaps below along with a behind-the-scenes photo. Deadpool was created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza and first appeared in New Mutants #98 (1991).

20th Century Fox is developing a “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” spin-off featuring Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played in the film by Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds is attached to reprise the character for what for now is simply being called “Deadpool.” The Marvel Comics character was created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza. Deadpool first appeared in New Mutants #98 (February 1991).
